Austin Cindric will never forget the events of last Sunday! The Cup Series rookie beat off late attacks from Bubba Wallace and Ryan Blaney to win the Daytona 500, becoming the first Next Gen vehicle era points race winner and the first Rookie of the Year contender to win the storied race.
Cindric qualified sixth, two rows behind the pole sitter and reigning winner Kyle Larson. The first caution came out on lap 42 for Kaz Grala‘s wheel coming off, prompting Chase Briscoe to try to avoid him but being spun by Cindric. Duel #1 winner Brad Keselowski, who drove the #2 Team Penske Ford before Cindric replaced him for 2022, battled for the lead with Kyle Busch throughout the early laps.
