What followed was an eight-day search for Mallory Beach. Her body was finally recovered by volunteers on March 3, about five miles down the river from the crash site. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Paul Murdaugh’s blood alcohol content was measured at 0.24, which is three times the legal limit. In the hours after the accident, his father, Alex Murdaugh, arrived at the hospital and engaged in behavior that many saw as an attempt to control the narrative.
