Chris Evans’s character, Pete Brenner in Pain Hustlers, is largely responsible for improving Zanna‘s situation and does everything possible to make his boss happy. Despite being the most well-known person as Captain America, he isn’t active on Instagram.
According to Grey, Pain Hustlers is a really unique intersection between the healthcare industry and capitalism and how the healthcare industry has been corrupted. Based on the same-titled novel by Evan Hughes, Emily Blunt plays single mother Liza Drake, who lives in her mother Catherine O’Hara‘s garage. Liza works at a strip club, and one of her clients, Pete Brenner (Chris Evans), gives her a job at his struggling company, Zanna Pharmaceuticals. Liza possesses exceptional interpersonal skills, enabling her to recommend a risky new cancer medication to physicians without realizing its potentially fatal consequences.
Pete Brenner is the lead character, played by Chris Evans in Netflix‘s recent movie. His departure from his superhuman triumph as Captain America is evident in this new character. Promoting the medication as a safe product that won’t lead to addiction is one of his main responsibilities as an employee of the corporation, in the show. Let us learn in more detail about his role.

A Detailed Look at Pete Brenner’s Characters’ Journeys in Pain Hustlers!
Pete Brenner, played by Chris Evans in Pain Hustlers, is largely responsible for improving Zanna‘s situation and boosting Lonafen sales. He works for a failing corporation that distributes fentanyl as a pharmaceutical sales agent. Promoting the medication as a safe product that won’t lead to addiction is one of his main responsibilities as an employee of the corporation.
The major problem with Pain Hustlers, in our opinion, is that it didn’t provide us with enough information on Pete Brenner’s character at first. That’s perhaps the reason we were never able to connect with the characters’ journey or the feelings they represented at one particular scene in the movie. Pete Brenner struck us as someone who was committed to Zanna Therapeutics’ mission and was working hard to boost sales of their fentanyl-based medication, Lonafen, when we first saw him in Pain Hustlers.

Pete Brenner didn’t even know Liza well, but he was willing to fabricate credentials on her resume and do whatever it took to ensure that his choice wasn’t questioned by his superiors. Saying that he was a sycophant who went to great lengths to appease his employer, Dr. Jack Neel, wouldn’t be incorrect. We first learned about his personality towards the end of Pain Hustlers, when he and Liza began to argue frequently.
At first, we thought Pete Brenner would have a strong moral compass, but in reality, he was willing to comply with his boss’s every request. Dr. Neel once called Brenner and Liza to asked them to persuade the doctors to prescribe their medication off-label. He didn’t give a damn if doing so was against the law. He was not happy that the growth had stopped, and Pete was fully supporting it.
Brenner became enraged when he learned that Liza was betraying them and that she had informed the police of everything. We came to understand that his loyalty to his boss and his firm was more important to him than anything else when he felt betrayed. Additionally, Pete Brenner’s decision-making would have been greatly influenced by his financial situation. Ultimately, the court found Brenner guilty, and Michael Babich, the CEO of Insys Therapeutics, was also found guilty and sentenced to 30 months in jail after entering a guilty plea to wire fraud.
Brenner probably didn’t regret anything he did; the only thing he might have regretted was that he had given Liza his life, and she had betrayed him by going to the police. Pete Brenner received his just desserts, but we suspect that he rationalized in a manner akin to that of Richard Sackler, who consistently insisted that it was not his fault that individuals were dependent on his substance.
