In the weeks immediately up to his resignation, Kalanick sold nearly all of his Uber stock, making a $2.5 billion profit. Uber former CEO Travis Kalanick's Silicon Valley relationship with his street violinist girlfriend came to an end in August 2016. According to Page Six, the elderly tech millionaire and Gabi Holzwarth brokeup, with sources blaming the separation on the increased pressures Kalanick was under at work as a result of his company's big losses.

Kalanick(@traviskal), who founded the company in 2009 and had extended operations to over 58 countries was dealt a devastating blow in August 2016 when it was revealed that the company lost over $1 billion in the first 6 months of the year. Holzwarth was a street performer violinist in San Francisco a few years ago when she caught the attention - and ears of some of the tech world's most powerful people. Brian Pawlowski, the Senior Vice President of NetApp, recruited her to perform a private party after hearing her outside a Trader Joe's in the city, according to a 2014 story by Recode.

Shervin Pishevar, a venture capitalist whose fund has invested in Airbnb, Munchery, and Uber, also discovered Holzwarth playing violin on the streets and had her play at a private event. Pishevar introduced Holzwarth to Kalanick at that gathering, and the two got along fairly smoothly. Holzwarth and Kalanick quickly made their relationship public, with Holzwarth attending the Time 100 Gala with Kalanick in April of 2014.

Following their relationship, Travis and his girlfriend were seen on the red carpet at the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner, the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, and the ultra-exclusive Met Ball. During the relationship, both of their careers blossomed, with Holzwarth being hired to play at events for companies like BitTorrent, NetApp, Muchery, Samsung, LinkedIn, and Google. Meanwhile, despite a series of legal setbacks, Uber's stock price had continued to rise, and the company announced that it would begin testing self-driving cars in Pittsburgh.

But after 2 years together, the stress of work was too much for Travis and his girlfriend to get over. There were some who attributed the breakup between Travis Kalanick and his girlfriend Gabi Holzwarth to their age difference, but nothing concrete was supporting those claims. Gabi has since moved on from the relationship, she is currently engaged to be married to William Thomas and they are expecting a baby before the summer.

The Uber-Complex Battle Behind 'Super Pumped', a Showtime Original Series

Uber has risen quickly from a simple transportation service to a global courier service that delivers food and freight, and rents out bicycles and scooters. The company's corporate speed bumps and craters, though, are the subject of Showtime's Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber. Season 1 of the anthology series, which premieres on February 27, stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Travis Kalanick, the former CEO of the ride-hailing business, and Kyle Chandler as Kalanick's onetime buddy Bill Gurley.

According to a synopsis provided by Showtime, this season swings on Kalanick, Uber's hard-charging CEO who was ultimately sacked in a boardroom coup, and his occasional relationship with his mentor Bill Gurley, the plainspoken, brilliant Texan venture capitalist who bets his sterling reputation on Uber's success and then had to live with the consequences.

For starters, Gurley invested $12 million in Uber through his business, Benchmark, in 2011 and joined the company's board of directors in March 2017, according to The New York Times. According to the newspaper, Gurley had a strong relationship with Mr. Kalanick at the time of the Times report and was the closest thing Mr. Kalanick had to a consigliere.

However, the New York Times also reported on Uber's problems in early 2017: former workers had accused the company of sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace. The corporation reportedly utilized a technology to track down and deceive regulators who were attempting to regulate the site. Kalanick was seen swearing at an Uber driver who complained about low pay. Uber had been accused of stealing technology by Waymo. In addition, competitor ride-sharing network Lyft was posing a growing threat to Uber.

Five of Uber's key investors, including Gurley's Benchmark, demanded Kalanick's resignation three months after the Times article, claiming that the company required stronger leadership. Kalanick agreed, saying in a statement that he accepted the investors' request to step aside so that Uber can focus on developing instead of being distracted by another conflict.  Kalanick's resignation, according to an Uber statement, allowed the company to fully embrace this new chapter in its history.
