Before Trolls Poppy Doll controversy started, the movie saw an up and down release when the film arrived at the theatres on 10 April 2020. Everyone knows what happened a week later in the US and almost all over the world. A massive pandemic brought the world to its knees, businesses shuttered, and the economy plummeted.
Trolls was obviously pulled from the theatres, there were talks of the movie losing some money, but Universal got smart and released the film on VOD. The movie made over $100 million through on-demand services, surpassing the total of the first movie. But the controversy was really starting to take hold at that time.
Well, after families were cooped up in their home due to the COVID-19 outbreak, a tune of 5 million people sat down to watch Trolls: World Tour in their home. It was a good time pass movie, good for kids and passably fun for parents, but then people started to throw words like cultural appropriation, and later pedophilia found its way into the controversy mix.
Trolls Poppy Doll Controversy – Pedophilia and Concerns About Children’s Toys
On 8 August 2020, there was concern raised about the appearance of Poppy Doll. Poppy is the queen of Pop music tribe in the movie trolls, and Anna Kendrick voices her. The dolls were released after the movie arrived on VOD, and after a few months in circulation, one person is raising some questions about the doll.
Poppy Doll controversy regarding pedophilia was raised by Jessica McManis on a petition site when she showed the picture of Poppy doll’s backside where the makers had placed a button. We are not sure if all the dolls have the button by Jessica started a petition to get the dolls pulled from shelves.
“Our society is conditioning our children to think pedophilia is ok. This Trolls World Tour doll named Poppy has a button on her private area under her skirt. When you push this button on the doll’s private, she gasps and giggles. This is not okay for a child’s toy,” Jessica wrote in the strongest possible manner.
The petition has close to 5,000 signatures as of this writing, and the petition has been up for less than four hours. Poppy Doll controversy and the talk of pedophilia are rightly raised as children should not be taught to take lightly if someone touches or tries to touch them in a compromising manner. “It’s not fun,” as Jessica rightly points out.

Trolls Poppy Doll Controversy – Where Did the Cultural Appropriation Talk Start?
The whole idea of the second troll movie was exploring other Troll tribes who were defined by their own music. Like Poppy was a queen of Pop Trolls, there were other tribes such as the main six, Pop, Funk, Country, Classical, Techno, and Rock.
The story begins with Rock attacking Techno and taking their string (watch the movie). Rock also wants all six strings belonging to the six tribes so she could play her guitar and make all trolls fall in line under the same musical banner.
Well, the movie happens, and you probably guessed the ending by now, big gesture, coming together, party. The cultural appropriation was a talk critic, and some people were having about who has the right to which music. Is pop really unique, The Beatles, Elvis, where did they get their music from?
All these questions and the ongoing situation in America really made the situation more than it needed to be. Even the writer of the movie said they were not making a movie about cultural appropriation; it is just something some viewers interpreted from the film. Well, now this controversy does not sound as bad as the talk of pedophilia going around about the Poppy Doll controversy now, does it?
