Young, Famous, and African: Fantana Was Born in Ghana but Raised in the United States!

Francine Koffie aka Fantana (@iamfantana) from Young, Famous, and African was born on July 3, 1997, in the Nzema district of Ghana’s Western Region. However, the 25-year-old star grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, where she spent the majority of her youth. Likely, she then finished her primary and secondary school in the United States and graduated from a prominent state college with a degree in business and fashion. Now, she has her own shop.

After meeting Wendy Shay (@wendyshayofficial), who introduced her to Bullet, the manager of Rufftown Records, Fantana had a career breakthrough. Later, she released her debut single, So What on June 24, 2019. The song got worldwide attention, establishing her as one of Ghana’s rising stars. She followed up with additionally successful singles, Girls Hate On Girls, and Rich Gyal Anthem. However, her racy images and speculations of bodily metamorphosis have kept her in the spotlight to this day.

Fantana’s love of music began at a young age, about the same time that Afrobeat became popular over the world. Fantana was inspired by several stars that were doing well in the music industry at the time. This inspired her to begin recording and creating music. She described how, while detained and awaiting bail from a family member, she began to reflect on her past, prompting her to create a new outlook on life.

Despite her musical prowess, Fantana has kept a low profile in recent years, having left Ruff Town Records due to irreconcilable differences with Shay. She also shared the news on social media, which has piqued fans’ interest in her life and career, with audiences eagerly awaiting the chance to see her on Young, Famous, and African and gain some insight into her world.

In an interview with Culture Daily, Fantana stated it was a terrific experience working with people from many African countries and being one of the cast’s youngest members. The 25-year-old actress went on to claim that she made relationships and ties over the four months of filming. She explained,

I got to see everybody with different personalities because I had never met anybody. I only knew Swanky from Nigeria personally. The filming was nice. It was a lot but fun.

Fantana continued by saying that she believed Peace Hyde selected her for Season 2 because of her reputation and outlook. Likely, people admire her personality and want to see her be herself, which motivated her to participate in Young, Famous, and African.
