Al Roker does not appear to be sick again as he has fully recovered after being hospitalized in November 2022 for blood clots. Albert Lincoln Roker Jr. aka Al Roker is an American weather presenter, journalist, television personality, and author who currently works as a weather anchor on NBC‘s Today and co-hosts 3rd Hour Today on occasion. Likely, he is also the owner of an inactive American Meteorological Society Television Seal #238.
Since 1995 with the exception of 2022, Roker has hosted NBC‘s coverage of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, where he delivered commentary with some of his “Today” colleagues. He is regarded as the uptown host, and his main tasks include cutting the ribbon during the parade’s ribbon-cutting ceremony and interviewing celebrities who are watching the march from its beginning at 77th Street.
However, he was unable to anchor the parade coverage in 2022 after recovering from blood clots that required hospitalization. As a result, his fans and admirers have been curious to whether he is sick again or he has already recovered. Well, here is what we know.

According to Page Six, he was rushed back to the hospital the day after being released on Thanksgiving. One witness told the outlet,
Al was taken from his home in a stretcher back to the hospital on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. His condition was worrying, but once back in the hospital, he improved.
And until Jan. 6, 2023, AI Roker had a clean bill of health and was back on TV, but he took another sabbatical in May 2023 for a knee replacement. Later, his wife, Deborah Roberts explained the reason on video which was posted on May 21, 2023,
Thank you all so much for being so concerned about him and so interested in his well-being. As many of you know he had a knee re-replacement, so a knee that had been replaced many many years ago had problems and had to be re-replaced. It makes it slow-going, it makes it a little tougher. It was a harder surgery, so it’s a little bit harder to snap back from but he’s doing pretty well, moving a little slowly.
Did Al Roker Retire?
Al Roker has not officially confirmed his retirement yet. However, it is crucial to note that things can change and that we do not have access to current or future information after that date. Meanwhile, he has been a popular and adored co-anchor on NBC‘s Today Show in recent years, and he has not declared any plans to quit. Al was brought to the hospital in November 2022 for a blood clot in his leg that spread to his lungs, according to his Instagram posts. He was hospitalized for about a month and was unable to co-host the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, something he had done for the previous 27 years. He was permitted to leave the hospital on Thanksgiving Day to spend time with his family and watch the parade on television.
Al Roker then spent another spell in the hospital before going home on December 8, 2022. He wasn’t quite ready to return to the Today show at the time because he was still recovering. But he did return to the show on January 6, 2023, after a two-month absence, and was warmly welcomed by his coworkers and fans.
Furthermore, Al Roker had not stated any plans to retire as of my knowledge cutoff date, and his return to the “Today” show in January 2023 shows that he has not retired. However, it is always feasible that he will consider retiring in the future.
