As per Distractify, Ari and Dorothy met for the first time in the Bahamas, where the former was traveling with the Girls + Blake Abbie and the latter was honoring his mother's birthday. She was the one who casually approached him and a companion at a bar, but she was not even thinking of herself; it was for her best friend Tina Leung, not herself.

After exchanging phone numbers, they immediately started messaging and talking on the phone, which ultimately led to another meeting. Once again, a pub was their destination, but this time it was considerably less crowded, and Ari blatantly inquired whether she had altered her return tickets because he wanted her to remain another day with him.
