Is It Cake, Too: Shocking Judgment Blunder Leads to Emotional Elimination!

In the third episode of Netflix's Is It Cake? season 2, the episode's guest judges — Chloe Fineman, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Chris Witaske — were challenged with distinguishing between two real ukuleles and two real takeout containers for their initial guess. But, for the first time in the show's history, the judges worried when the

Normally, if the judges correctly identify a cake, the baker is eliminated. If the panel is duped by a lookalike object, the baker will win. If more than one contestant falls into either category, which is typically the case, a taste test is used to determine who advances and who is eliminated from each group. As the startled participants watched, Day proclaimed that the judges' failure to make any guesses for the first two cakes resulted in both decorators being deemed safe, because they virtually stumped the panel. Isn't that great? Not for another beloved baker, who suffered as a result of the judge's initial decision paralysis.

The judges successfully predicted the next two cakes given to them, which were designed to resemble a printer and a stack of college hoodies. They were duped by the former and chose an actual printer instead, but they properly identified the clothing cake. As a result, Liz Marek (@sugargeekshow), the baker of the episode's sole correctly identified cake, was eliminated without being able to offer the judges a taste to decide, as we've come to believe.

The result shocked the competitors not only because it was so heavily based on a judging error, but also because Marek is a popular TikTok cake sculptor and teacher who essentially wrote the book on cake decoration. Before appearing on Is It Cake?, she had tutored at least one of the other contestants. With several of the bakers still in the early stages of their careers, she was hailed as a shoo-in to make it to the finals from the first episode.
