The Shock Rock Godfather Rock and roll's Captain Alice Cooper has been named all of these things for a good cause during the course of her five-decade career. Both as a member of the shock-rock-architecting Alice and as a prolific (albeit slicker-sounding) solo artist, the entity born Vincent Damon Furnier became world-famous because he saw infinite possibilities in an average stage, many of them dark, theatrical, and seemingly deranged. The singer is still as shocking today as she was then.

Alice Cooper questioned the whole woke thing in a new interview, mostly agreeing with recent controversial statements made by a couple of his musical contemporaries on gender-affirming child care. In April, Paul Stanley of KISS labeled s*x reassignment therapy for minors a "sad and dangerous fad." Dee Snider backed up his statement, saying, "You know what? I, too, 'felt pretty' at one point. I'm glad my folks didn't jump to assumptions! Paul Stanley, you said it perfectly."

Stanley later attempted to clarify his position, while Snider wrote an essay on his lifetime of supporting the transgender community's right to identify as they want. Alice Cooper was asked about his thoughts on Stanley and Snider's comments in a new interview with Stereogum, to which he replied,

I understand there are cases of transgender people, but I'm afraid it's also a fad, and I'm afraid there are a lot of people claiming to be this just because they want to be that.

He added that when you have a 6-year-old child who has no idea, I think it's wrong. He just wants to play, and you're confusing him by saying, 'Yeah, you're a guy, but you can be a lady if you want to.' That must be perplexing to a child. Even a teenager finds it perplexing.

He went on to remark that someone is still trying to find their identity, and yet here's this thing going on, saying, "Yeah, but you can be anything you want. If you want to, you can be a cat.' It's preposterous to the point of becoming ridiculous. Cooper went on to claim that he allows people to become sexually conscious of who they are before they start thinking about whether they're a guy or a girl. He looked at it this way a lot of the time—the rational way.
