As an eventful year is winding down this is the season for Oscar bate movies and also holiday-themed flicks. We may not get as many award season movies (due to COVID) but Netflix and Hallmark will make sure the holiday quota is met. One such show coming to the streaming service is Dash & Lily with a recognizable cast.

Hallmark was the premier name when it came to holiday flicks but slowly Netflix is nudging its way into the market. This year alone they have released Halloween themed movie, all holiday spanning romance comedy movie, and now it is time for a teen-targeted show based around Christmas.

Dash & Lily is the new Netflix series that revolves around the Christmas period as amazing sparks fly between two opposite personalities. So, before the release of the series, from cast to the source material, here is everything you need to know about Dash & Lily.

Dash & Lily Netflix Plot - Is the Series Based on a Book?

While the end of the year is mostly about studios trying to do their best to win some awards and ride the awards to larger numbers at the box office. It is also the beginning of the holiday season and along with its holiday-themed entertainment. Musicians make holiday albums and movies and TV show makers bring stories around the holiday.

Dash & Lily is one of those holiday centered series which is looking to capitalize on the vacuum of content at the movies. People are in their homes and what better way to make a show a certain hit than by releasing it a month early and riding the goodwill and the positive wave all the way into December.

According to the synopsis released by Netflix, Dash & Lily is a story where "Opposites attract at Christmas as cynical Dash and sunny Lily trade messages and dares in a red notebook they pass back and forth around New York City."

Dash is a cynic about holidays who looks for doom and gloom during the period while Lily loves Christmas. In the days leading up to the big day, the duo share dares through a book and in doing so are introduced to their little corner of New York.

The movie is based on the novel by acclaimed writers David Levithan and Rachel Cohn. David is known for his novel turned movie Every Day. The first Dash & Lily novel was released in 2010. There is another book in the series which was released about six years later.

The Dash & Lily Cast - Some Recognizable Faces

Casting is a vital process when making a movie or a TV show. Most of the time casting determines the enthusiasm towards a particular production. Dash & Lily features a strong cast capable of carrying the show and you might even recognize a few of the cast members.

The eponymous Dash & Lily are played by Austin Abrams and Midori Francis, respectively. Dash is not a fan of the holidays while Lily loves the color, the decorations, the enthusiasm of people as well as the happiness it all brings to everyone.

Dash & Lily are opposites and in normal circumstances, they probably would not have liked each other. But there is something about the holiday spirit which brings the two together and they both see the other's point of view.

Supporting the leading cast members of Dash & Lily is Dante Brown and Troy Iwata who play Boomer and Langston. Other cast members of the show are Keana Marie, James Saito, Jodi Long, Glenn McCuen, Michael Park, Gideon Emery, Jennifer Ikeda, Diego Guevara, Agneeta Thacker, Leah Kreitz, and Ianne Fields Stewart.

While Christmas is still about two months away Netflix is not waiting till then to release the show. According to the streaming giant, Dash & Lily is set for a 10 November 2020 release date. The show will hope to survive till December so that people can stumble up the series when looking for Christmas entertainment during the month.

The first teaser for Dash & Lily was released on 7 October 2020 and the first trailer for the show was released on 23 October 2020. You can catch the 8-episode first season of Dash & Lily on Netflix in November.
