In Gee Chun defeats Lexi Thompson to win the Women's PGA Championship!

In Gee Chun maintained a positive attitude throughout the whole Women's PGA Championship, which is not difficult when you shoot 64 in the opening round and hold the lead for most of the competition.

Chun triumphed through a steamy weekend at Congressional while playing her best in the opening round on a wet day to win her third major championship. On Sunday, she soon gave up the remaining portion of a significant lead before battling back to win by one stroke after Lexi Thompson's putting struggled late in the round.

On the final two days of the competition, Chun had 3-over rounds of 75. She managed to finish at 5-under 283, just one stroke better than Thompson (73) and Minjee Lee (70). After a win, she explained,

"Before start today my coach told me, 'In Gee, if you enjoy your game, this trophy is yours. Sometimes it's really hard to keep smiling when my game, I mean, going not good, but I think I hung in there. So I'm so proud now."

Chun took home $1.35 million as the prize pool was doubled. She lost a three-shot lead in the first three holes of the final round after holding a six-shot lead at the halfway stage of the competition. After the front nine, Thompson led Chun by two shots, but Thompson's putting issues were just getting started.

Chun only had two victories in the United States; her first came at the 2015 U.S. Open. It was her first victory anywhere in the world since 2018. The Evian Championship in France the following year was where she won her second major.

In Gee Chun now joins Inbee Park (seven) and Se Ri Pak (five) as the third South Korean athlete to have won at least three major championships.
