Joseph Galfy Was a Well-Known Lawyer Who Was Killed by Kai Lawrence; Learn About His Wiki, Autopsy, Wife, Obituary, Injuries, and Family!
Joseph Galfy was a well-known lawyer and a partner in the Rahway, New Jersey-based firm Kochanski, Baron & Galfy. From 1965 until 1970, he served in the United States Army as a major with the 24th Infantry Division, JAGC. In terms of education, he earned bachelors and law degrees from Seton Hall.
As per The Sun, Joseph Galfy, born on October 15, 1939, was a military veteran who worked as a prominent attorney in Clark Township, New Jersey. In 2013, the 73-year-old had been living on Starlite Drive in Clark for fifteen years. Friends and coworkers recall Joseph as a fragile, mild-mannered, and helpful man who could not harm a fly. Furthermore, as per his wiki, he was well-known for sticking to his routine, from when he read the morning newspaper to when he arrived at his office.
As a result, Bob Ellenport, Joseph’s rear neighbor, was taken aback when he received a call from the former’s secretary on May 13, 2013. She added that the attorney was supposed to appear in court that morning but did not appear and was not reachable on his cell phone. Bob walked over to check on Joseph, only to find his newspaper on the porch and the house strangely quiet. To confirm that everything was fine, he called the cops, who arrived at the latter’s house for a welfare check.
To everyone’s surprise, the 73-year-old was discovered dead in a pool of blood on the floor of his main bedroom, wearing just his underpants and socks. Furthermore, the residence was not ransacked, indicating that no forcible entry occurred. An autopsy found that Joseph died as a result of significant blunt force trauma, and injuries to the head, crushing most of his facial bones and ear. After a lengthy debate, it was determined that he was most likely stomped to death.
The investigators assumed Joseph knew his attacker because there was no evidence of forced entry and the house was amazingly organized. They soon discovered a piece of paper with Kai Lawrence‘s phone number behind a laptop in the family room. A train ticket from the morning of May 12, 2013, was also found in the main bedroom. The police accessed the railway station CCTV tape and identified the victim buying a ticket and interacting with a man with unkempt hair. Caleb McGillivary, AKA Kai Lawrence, a homeless hitchhiker, was quickly identified.
He was a loyal brother, uncle, and friend who liked traveling, the New York Giants, and music, and played in a wedding band for over 25 years, according to his obituary in The Star-Ledger. He appeared to be loved and respected by the community, even though little is known about his family. Galfy’s sister Marcella Galfy predeceased him; he is survived by his brother James Galfy and his wife, Diane.
Joseph Galfy’s murderer Kai McGillivery, was put on trial in April 2019, six years after his arrest; he pled not guilty and acted violently in court. He was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 57 years in prison in May of that year, including the time he had previously served. In August 2021, Kai’s petition to overturn the conviction was denied.
