Did Katherine Heigl Have Thyroid Cancer: Surgery Update!

No, Katherine Heigl has never been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. However, she previously received surgery to have two titanium plates placed into her neck.

Part 2 of the renowned Netflix drama Firefly Lane Season 2 has finally arrived, providing fans with resolutions to various cliffhangers left by Part 1. The series, based on Kristin Hannah's novels of the same name and its sequel Fly Away, chronicles the friendship of Kate Mularkey (Sarah Chalke) and Tully Hart (Katherine Heigl) over the period of 30 years. The tragic seven episodes of Part 2 bring the series to a heartbreaking conclusion, suggesting that Part 2 of Season 2  will mark our last opportunity to meet Kate and Tully.

According to Netflix, Season 2 of Firefly Lane will be the series' final season and plans have not changed since then. The statement was surprising at the time because the first season of Hannah's series only covered half of the first book. However, Season 2, Part 1 ended with the revelation of Kate's cancer diagnosis, which paralleled the same plot point in Hannah's books.

On the other hand, we've recently discovered that many people have been interested to know if Katherine Heigl was previously diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Similarly, they also want to know about her neck surgery. Well, we've got you covered.

No, Katherine Heigl Was Never Diagnosed With Thyroid Cancer: However, She Previously Received Neck Surgery to Have Two Titanium Plates Placed Into Her Neck!

No, Katherine Heigl (@katherineheigl) was never diagnosed with thyroid cancer and of course, she has not undergone any surgery to remove her thyroid gland. However, the Firely Lane cast previously shocked her fans when she revealed she had neck surgery to have two titanium plates placed into her neck to treat a herniated disc. The actress posted a video of herself and her husband Josh Kelley (@joshbkelley) in a hospital before receiving surgery, but she did not reveal that she needed surgery at that time.

A herniated disc, also known as a slipped disc, is a condition with an elastic disc that sits between the spinal bones. When the soft center of a spinal disc pushes through a crack in the tougher outside shell, this disease occurs. Some ruptured discs do not produce any symptoms. Others can irritate surrounding nerves, resulting in arm or leg pain, numbness, or weakness. Not every disc requires attention. Medication, physical therapy, and potentially surgery are used as treatments when necessary.

Later, Katherine Heigl was sitting up in bed, wearing a comfy knitted pajama set and her head in a neck brace in a post-recovery photograph. Finding some humor in the situation, Katherine wrote:

Well…I am now bionic!! Two titanium disk now inhabit my neck and I can probably stand on my head for like hours…I'm not gonna try it just yet but give me a few months and I'll blow your mind!!

Taking it more seriously, the former Grey's Anatomy star said: "I am so deeply deeply grateful to the incredible Dr's and care team that saved me from the most excruciating pain I have ever experienced and blessed me with a new pain free lease on life!"

Katherine continued by praising the medical professionals and other members of the team that took care of her throughout her procedure and rehabilitation as well as the tremendous talent and expertise they showed. She added: "Heading into surgery and hospital stays is always a bit scary and you guys could not have made me feel more comfortable or taken care of! Thank you, thank you, thank you." Finishing her post with a joke, Katherine jested: "Oh and happy ST. PATRICK'S DAY! Clearly I've been blessed with the luck of the Irish today!"

Many of Katherine Heigl's fans backed her, with many drawing parallels to her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey's Anatomy. "Dr. Izzie Stevens can help you!!!" one person commented, while another asked about a different character: "Did Dr. Meredith Grey do your surgery?"

But many admirers sent the actress their best wishes, and one of them wrote: "So glad you are feeling better already. You even make a neck brace look glam my friend. I love your doctors and care team so much! Rest up!" Another supporter commented, "Speedy recovery Katherine," along with an arm-flexing emoji.

Additionally, Katherine is the adoring mother of three children, who will no doubt look after her during her rehabilitation, but the actress made an unexpected announcement about a possible fourth kid.

Katherine Heigl had planned to add a fourth child to her family of two adopted daughters and one biological son when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Katherine told Parents magazine that while she and Josh thought, "We needed one more child to complete this home," their opinions were changed during the pandemic. She said, "I am very content with my three!."
