After taking part in a £2.6 million heist aboard the London to Glasgow mail train at Mentmore in Buckinghamshire in 1963, Biggs was on the run for 36 years.
Their 1966 flight from Britain to Australia and a clandestine hideout in the suburbs of Melbourne, where he worked as a carpenter at the studio of Channel 9 and she in a biscuit factory, months apart, captivated the media and the general public. Only a few years later, after he escaped a police dragnet to a hideout in South America, she was left behind with three children in Blackburn, North Carolina. Police and journalists flocked to the funeral of Biggs' eldest son, Nicholas, who was killed in a vehicle accident in 1971, hoping to see Biggs turn up. In an earlier interview with ABC, she said that, from the day that happened, everything was absolutely out of her control, and everything to do with him since has been totally out of her hands. On December 11, 2014, Charmian Brent, as she was known, passed away peacefully in a Box Hill hospital. She was 75 years old.
