Natalie Portman confirms Jane Foster will wield Thor's hammer in Love and Thunder.
Natalie Portman, who is making a return to Thor: Love and Thunder, reveals Jane Foster is going to wield Thor's hammer in the film. Portman starred as Foster in the first solo film Thor (2013) and the much slandered 2013 sequel Thor: The Dark World.
However, she did not make an appearance in arguably the best Thor movie in 2017, Thor: Ragnarok, a glaring issue that was easily papered over by the God of Thunder and Loki in the early parts of the film.
During Comic-Con 2019, Portman was not just announced as Jane Foster, but also as the female version of God of Thunder.
In the comics, Jane attains the abilities of Thor through Mjolnir but also develops cancer through the mystical hammer.
Despite director Taika Waititi diverting away from Thor's comics origins in Ragnarok, it seems he's going to revert back to the original narrative for Love and Thunder, as Portman has previously indicated Jane is going to fight cancer in the script.

How the facts are portrayed is ambiguous for now. Likewise, it's unclear when the movie will take place in the franchise's timeline. In fact, there's yet to be clarity on whether Chris Hemsworth's Thor is going to be fat like he was in Avengers: Endgame.
Speaking at the espnW Summit, Portman stated Jane is going to use Mjolnir in Thor: Love and Thunder. Portman talked to former soccer star Julie Foudy about the film. When Foudy inquired if Portman was going to hold Mjolnir in the upcoming movie, the actress seemed pretty positive about it.
The pair then joked about what sort of reactions Jane would have when she wields the hammer.
Foudy: Do you get to hold the hammer?
Portman: I do, I do.
Foudy: And be like, "Look at me now boys!"
Portman: [Laughs] That's exactly [what I say]. You guessed the script, Julie.
Foudy: "Check me out now, b--ches, I got the hammer!" Come on, please tell me that's in the script?
Portman: Oh yeah. I mean, that's like basically all I say. You're psychic.
Besides the humor in the conversation, there's a grain of truth that suggests Portman's Foster is going to follow, if not precisely the same plotline from the graphic novels, at least a very similar one.
Moreover, it's unknown how she finds Mjolnir in the first place, given that Captain America took it back to 2013 during the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame. The hammer in the present timeline was shattered by Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, but Waititi is presumably going to provide an answer to this query at the initial phase of the film.

Portman's remarks may also indicate the script for the fourth edition is at a more advanced stage than commonly believed. The movie only begins filming in January, and Hemsworth joked script talks with director Waititi haven't been fruitful so far.
Needless to say, there is obviously a clear script or at least a plot summary since Portman is sure Jane will be able to use the hammer. She'll make history when she does because only three characters (Thor, Captain America, and Vision) have previously been deemed worthy of wielding Mjolnir in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
