Stranger Things season 4 could see a shocking return of one popular character.
One of the Stranger Things stars we thought we had bid farewell to teased he could be returning in the Netflix series's 4th season.
Dacre Montgomery portrayed Billy for the last two seasons in the popular science-fiction horror, but his character's demise in the season 3 finale definitely made it look like there's no coming back for him. Perhaps not yet, if we read his most recent social media message.
Montgomery took to Twitter, where he posted a black and white picture of himself looking like he was about to start filming. And all the indications would point to this being related to Stranger Things.
The curly mullet and short facial hair he's donning in this picture are a perfect match to his appearance as Max's older stepbrother, and we know that the 4th season is now shooting again after a long delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, Billy appears to be returning for more.
If you remember, the character was a hostile force in season 2 since he mistreated Max and his friends, and he was also an adversary to Steve Harrington.
However, in season 3, he transitioned to the prime villain as Mind Flayer picked him as his key vessel in Hawkins while he managed to manifest himself beyond the Upside Down.
The trapped Billy put down many under Flayer's power, resulting in numerous deaths, but finally, he was able to revolt against his power as he basically went on a suicide mission to help stop it.
This looked pretty conclusive, so it's hard to imagine how he could be revived, even in a paranormal show like Stranger Things.
It's likely, then, that Montgomery could be returning to shoot flashback footages for season 4. This would mean we have a more Max-focused plotline this season, with memories possibly detailing a little more of her background before she relocated to Hawkins.
Stranger Things season 4 is expected to release sometime in 2021.
