Sheila Vand is an American actress of Iranian descent born in a suburb of Los Angeles on 27th April 1985. The second-generation Iranian-American was raised by her parents in Palo Alto, California. The actress studied acting and directing at the UCLA School of Theatre, Film, and Television.

Vand is best known for featuring in Argo (2012), A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014), and We the Animals (2018).

The post-apocalyptic dystopian thriller series, Snowpiecer, is based on the 2013 movie of the same name starring Chris Evans. Moreover, it is adapted from a French graphic novel Le Transperceneige (1982).

The series follows the passengers of a massive, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. The train called ‘Snowpiercer’ carries the remaining humanity seven years after the earth’s been turned into a frozen wasteland. The show deals with issues concerning social injustice, politics of survival, and class warfare.

Sheila Vand is playing the role of Zarah; her character was originally named Cleo in the pilot. During an interview with Elle, the actress revealed:

I’m in the Snowpiercer TV series [on TNT], which we’re shooting and will come out early next year. And the race of that character actually changed after the pilot. It was originally a role named Cleo that didn’t have any religion or race. And now her name is Zarah.

The cast includes names like Daveed Diggs, Jennifer Connelly, Alison Wright, Annalise Basso, Sasha Frolova, and Mickey Sumner. Meanwhile, Sean Bean is set to join the main cast in season 2.

Snowpiercer premieres on TNT in the second quarter of 2020.

Vand is best known for her portrayal of Sahar in the Oscar-winning movie Argo (2012), starring Ben Affleck. Earlier, she made her Broadway debut in Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo (2011). The film was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.

Vand’s worked in several projects with director Ana Lily, most notably as Farah in the short film Pashmaloo that premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2011. Three years later, she starred in another of Ana’s projects, an American vampire Western film A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014.

Sheila is currently collaborating with a 2013 TED speaker and painter/photographer, Alexa Meade, since 2012. Their joint series MILK: What Will You Make of Me? got featured in the 2013 Ted Global Conference as well as The Huffington Post, Wired, and Juxtapoz magazine.

In 2014-15, Vand featured as Maureen James for 13 episodes in an espionage thriller series State of Affairs. This was followed by the main role of Nilaa Mizrani in 24: Legacy (2017) for 13 episodes.

In 2017, Sheila starred as Monica in a black comedy crime movie 68 Kill. The following year, the actress played the role of Ma in a coming-of-age drama film We the Animals.

Although Sheila Vand was previously in a relationship with a boyfriend she preferred not to name, she appears to be single right now. During an interview with Complex back in 2014, the actress shed light on her fascination with music inspired by her dating partner. She said:

My boyfriend works in music. He manages a bunch of bands, so I almost know more about the music world than I do about my own industry.

Sheila further disclosed her boyfriend is “totally into the internet.” Even though he doesn’t do social media, he loves seeing what’s out there. “He loves culture and believes that the Internet is such a big part of the culture, and it is, but I respect his way of looking at it in an anthropological way.”

In the same interview, the actress revealed she’s a huge music fan. However, she attended her first concert pretty late in life since her immigrant parents never taught her about it. “I remember since that concert, which I’m too embarrassed to even tell you who it was.”
