Sarah Wayne Callies was born on 1st June 1977 in La Grange, Illinois, to David E. Callies (father) and Valerie Wayne (mother). Her parents were professors at the University of Hawaii, Manoa.

When she was merely a year old, Sarah moved to Honolulu, Hawaii with her family. She attended Punahou School, where she showed her early acting prowess participating in several school plays.

Upon completing high school, Callies attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, while she also involved herself in theatre. She earned a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from National Theatre Conservatory in 2002.

Sarah Wayne Callies plays a starring role as Robin Perry in the NBC drama Council of Dads. The actress revealed the inspiration for her wonderful performance in the pilot came from former The Walking Dead co-star Scott Wilson.

Sarah Wayne Callies is married to her husband Josh Winterhalt, for nearly two decades. The couple who shares two children first met at Dartmouth, and after dating for several years, decided to take their relationship forward by exchanging their wedding vows on 21st July 2002. Winterhalt is a martial arts teacher by profession.

Four years into their married life, reports began circulating around January 2007 of the fact that the couple was expecting their first child. They welcomed a daughter named Keala Wayne Winterhalt on 20th July 2007. Six years later, they added a new member into their family, an adopted son named Oakes Wayne Winterhalt, born in August 2013.

Sarah Wayne Callies moved to New York in 2003 and landed her debut role on the small screens with the recurring character as Kate O’Malley on CBS’s courtroom dramedy Queens Supreme (2003). The same year, she gained a starring role of Jane Porter on the WB adventure-drama Tarzan (2003).

A couple of years later, Callies played one of her most renowned roles, Sara Tancredi, on Fox’s serial drama Prison Break (2005-17) starring Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller, the latter of whom she developed a close friendship with. Over the span of 12 years, she featured a total of 76 episodes. Interestingly, her character was killed off in the third season because of her pregnancy. Later, she made her return in the fourth season with the explanation of her ‘death’ as staged.

In 2010, the actress landed a starring role as Lori Grimes in the post-apocalyptic horror The Walking Dead for three seasons until her character got killed off upon her request to keep the storyline consistent with the comics version.

Callies’ notable movie roles include Black November (2012) as Kate Summers, Into the Storm (2014) as Allison Stone, and The Other Side of the Door (2016) as Maria.
