Born to Roberto Urbina (father), an architect, and Pilar Burgos (mother), the actor spent his childhood in Monteria until the age of 11 when he returned to his hometown. Urbina made his acting debut as Sebastian in a Bolivian drama film Sexual Dependence (2003). Speaking on getting this part, the actor said:
Without any interest I accompanied a friend to present a casting and for things of life I auditioned and they chose me for one of the leading roles. It was independent cinema, the film is called sexual dependence.
The actor later moved to Argentina. "There I finished school and took the opportunity to do theater. I really enjoyed the experience of the performing arts."

Urbina traveled to Miami to pursue a career in acting. Later, the movie Sexual Dependence was shown at a film festival in Los Angeles, the place where he currently resides. Speaking of which, the actor revealed,
As a result of my work in that film, Robert Stein contacted me, with whom I began to do several projects. I've been on tapes like 'Towards the Dark' and 'Blues.' I also had a character in the renowned series 'Heroes' and 'Grey's Anatomy,' with which I realized that being in this medium is not easy, it is total perseverance. You have to be used to rejection and then reap the rewards of so much effort.
Roberto signed a contract with CMO Producciones upon completing his studies at the Stella Adler School. "The Courier of the Innocents was given to me when they came to me on vacation with Clara María Ochoa, from CMO Producciones. I did the casting, and I stayed, and at six months, I came to record."
The actor added, "The filming lasted a year and was one of my most pleasant experiences, since it is the first time I was performing in Colombia, besides doing it next to an actress as impressive and interesting as Margarita Rosa de Francisco."
