Netflix never seems to be short of romantic titles, but there’s one show, in particular, that’s been catching people’s attention in the last month or so – it goes by the name of Virgin River. The wonderful show is receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike.
The Netflix series stars The Walking Dead & This Is Us alum, Alexandra Breckenridge, as Melinda “Mel” Monroe. She moves to the pleasant little town of Virgin River after applying on an ad to work as a nurse practitioner.

Mel believes this is the perfect place to start fresh, leaving her haunting memories behind. However, moving on isn’t quite easy as it seems, so she must heal herself before she can truly call Virgin River her home.
Amidst her adventures, Melinda bumps into Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) with whom she gets close pretty quickly, catching romantic feelings for him. However, it soon gets a whole lot complicated when the characters begin to learn more about each other.

Ever since Virgin River released on Netflix, one question keeps arising amongst fans – Where is Virgin River filmed? The beautiful scenery couldn’t look more appealing, so curiosity is only natural. If you’re one such fan, you couldn’t have arrived at a better place. So, without further ado, let’s get to it.
Virgin River Filming Location – Is Virgin River a Real Town?
Virgin River is primarily filmed in Vancouver and British Columbia.
Source: The Wrap
As per the show, Virgin River is a fictional town located in northern California. Although the place does exist for real, there’s no such town specifically called ‘Virgin River.’ It is, in fact, merely a tributary of the Colorado River that spans Utah, Nevada, and Arizona.
The filming of the show began in December 2018 and concluded in March 2019. The Netflix series primarily picked Vancouver and British Columbia to bring Robyn Carr’s Virgin River novels to life. In addition, the show opted for the filming locations of Burnaby and Port Coquitlam.

Going deeper into details, the scenes were shot in Snug Cove and Artisan Lane. The library parking lot of Snug Cove was transformed into a Californian town. In addition, some cars were driven on the Bown Island Truck and Orchard Lane.
The other locations include the intersection of Northbrook Court and North Fraser Way. Additionally, the filming took place at the Burnaby Fraser Foreshore Park and Deer Lake Park.
The filming crew also headed to Port Coquitlam in British Columbia, which is located 17 miles east of Vancouver. Some of the scenes were shot in the business establishments there, most notably Samz Pub and Wink Beautique on Shaughnessy Street.

The rest of the locations include Murdo Frazer Cabin in North Vancouver and Cheakamus Lake Road in Whistler.
It’s quite evident the Netflix series’ managed to make the best use of areas in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, to bring Virgin River to life, including the peaceful and harmonious lifestyle of people living there.
Robyn Carr is often asked by fans – Where is Virgin River filmed?
Robyn Carr, the author of the Virgin River novels, reveals fans often ask her where exactly is Virgin River located. And whether or not it’s a real place. Carr said,
People always write and say, ‘Where is it? I want to go there,’ and I have to remind them that it only exists in our hearts and minds.
The author continued, “But to further that thought, we can have that sense of community in our own neighborhood or school or church group or community center or library association. All we have to do is try to create it. We create it by being helpful neighbors and good friends and positive people.”
Whether or not Virgin River exists for real, the place couldn’t look more amazing. To second Robyn’s thoughts, Virgin River will indeed always live in our hearts and minds.
