Developed by Dean Georgaris, The Baker and the Beauty is an American romantic comedy-drama series, adapted from the Israeli romantic comedy-series Beauty and the Baker by Assi Azar that ranks as one of the greatest shows in Israel's television history.

During the show's panel at the winter TCA press tour, showrunner Dean Georgaris explained the key differences between the American show and its Israeli counterpart.

The Israeli show stayed focused primarily on the baker and the beauty, and it was a half-hour show. We were able to expand it for the hour and really make it about the entire family, which sets us apart and lets us do family stories which we can all relate to.

As per IMDb, the synopsis reads:

A blue-collar baker strikes up a relationship with an international superstar. US version of the Israeli romantic comedy series 'The Baker and the Beauty'.

Dan Bucatinsky plays the role of Lewis on ABC's The Baker and the Beauty. Lewis serves as the manager of the famous Australian model Noa Hamilton (Nathalie Kelley), who seeks to protect her image at all costs.

The openly gay star Dan Bucatinsky is married to American screenwriter and film director husband Don Roos since 2008. The couple first met in 1992 when Roos invited him to be his date at the premiere of Love Field starring Michelle Pfeiffer.

Back in 2014 during Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity Town Hall Meeting, Bucatinsky recalled the moment he met his future husband for the first time:

About one month after I met my current husband Don in 1992, he invited me to be his date at the premiere of his first film, Love Fields, starring Michelle Pfeiffer. I remember feeling a wave of excitement at the opportunity to be Don’s ‘plus one.’

The actor added, "They were having a screening and after-party in Westwood, but he told me soon after we wouldn’t be staying for the screening. Don and the film’s producers, along with Michelle and her, at the time, new husband, David Kelley, would all be going to dinner together instead."

The 54-year-old continued, "My jaw dropped. What? I was going to be sitting at an intimate dinner table with Michelle Pfeiffer. My heart should have skipped a beat, but instead, it sank. ‘What’s the matter?’ Don asked, already adept at reading my pathetic attempts to hide my emotions."

The couple tied the knot in 2008 merely months after the state of California first issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples in the same year.

The pair introduced two kids into their family, but The Baker and the Beauty star believes they were a family much earlier. He continued,

Then there's the notion of calling ourselves the "fathers" of our children. We're not their biological fathers, but does that make me any less their father? If you can adopt children and be nonbiological parents, you can be nonbiological aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters.

With time, the society is redefining marriage, commitment, and parenthood. The actor reckons it's a good thing the fact that more and more people are opening up to define words differently.
