Lexa Doig (birth name Alexandra Lecciones Doig) was born on 8th June 1973 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to parents Gloria B. Lecciones (mother), a registered nurse from the Philippines, and David W. Doig (father), a Canadian engineer. She’s got an older brother named Ted Doig.
Lexa studied rhythmic gymnastics as a kid, and when she was nine years old, she grew a keen interest in acting. She received an inspiration to become an actor after watching a theatre production of George Gershwin’s opera Porgy Bess. Later in her teenage years, the actress studied American Sign Language.

Virgin River, based on novels by Robyn Carr, follows the character of Melinda “Mel” Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), who shifts to the remote location of Virgin River in California, upon answering an ad to work as a nurse practitioner.
Mel believes this is the perfect place to start fresh, leaving her distressing memories behind. However, she soon realizes moving on isn’t quite easy as it seems, so she must heal herself before she can genuinely embrace Virgin River as her home.

Lexa Doig tied the knot with her husband, Michael Shanks, on 2nd August 2003, following a delightful wedding ceremony. The duo shares two children, a son & a daughter. Their first child, a daughter named Mia Tabitha Shanks was born on 13th September 2004. Two years later, the lovebirds welcomed a son named Samuel David Shanks on 19th March 2006. In addition, the pair shares a daughter named Tatiana Shanks from Michael’s previous relationship.
The couple first met on the set of Andromeda (2000). They stumbled upon each other when Michael got cast to make a guest appearance in season 1, episode 20, titled Star-Crossed.
